Viticulturist Career Description

Viticulturists apply plant science principles to manipulate the vine to produce the kind of grapes necessary for the production of different wine types and styles.

What am I going to do in this occupation?

Viticulturists are responsible for the production of grapes under a wide variety of natural conditions, from the preparation of the land, planting, trellising, pruning, and canopy management to the determination of optimum ripeness and harvesting of grapes. Viticulturists are able to manage both table and wine grapes because management is based on plant science principles and processes such as sunlight interception, photosynthesis, etc. Viticulturists provide guidance to wine farmers how to manipulate their vineyards to obtain the best results.
