Tier 1 Visa Application
Tier 1 Visa application is still the same as the now defunct HSMP visa application. It will still require those who wish to work in UK to go through the point system and would have to obtain the required points to qualify for a Visa. To pass the point system of Tier 1, you need to reach 75 points in one category and 10 points each on English and funds. There are do-it-yourself assessment forms that you can find in the UK government website for Tier 1 and in other Visa services website. This assessment form will give you an idea on where you excel and on where you need to work if you want to qualify for the Tier 1 Visa. When you receive the Tier 1 Visa, you will be allowed to work anywhere in UK for three years.
After two years, you can apply for the Tier 1 Visa extension which is also the same with HSMP extension application. Those who could comply with the requirements of extension could qualify to a maximum of five years of extension which will also allow them to ask if they could stay in the country permanently as a citizen. In Tier 1 Visa extension, the applicant will still be assessed according to the point system. At the stage, they could be different and the annual income will also change as the job will now be in UK. The 95-point requirement policy for qualification still applies although English and availability of funds could be easily addressed.
It is important to note that since Tier 1 is relatively new, there are those that will renew to Tier 1 that used to be in HSMP system. In this situation, a proof of English proficiency in IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is required. You need to reach band six to qualify.
