Recreation Manager Career Description
Recreation managers co-ordinate recreation programmes for people in their leisure time to improve their quality of life.
What am I going to do in this occupation?
The recreation manager's task is to develop programmes at a recreation centre for specific people, in which they can take part during their leisure time. Participants can be people with disabilities, children, the elderly, etc.
It is the recreation manager's responsibility to keep communities informed about the different programmes, excursions and exhibitions. They advise the administration office and counselors on sport, recreation and parks and also give advice on how to obtain sponsors. They co-ordinate and advice recreation officers about different programmes and keep records of all activities and events. Recreation managers also provide material for brochures, weekly newsletters and news releases. They communicate with supervisors and sub-ordinates and monitor monthly expenses and revenue.
Requirements
What kind of personality do I need? Recreation managers should have knowledge of more than one official language of South Africa and they must have the ability to work with all kinds of people. There will be people working under them and therefore they must have some management abilities, such as organisation and delegation skills.
Where can I work?
Recreation managers can work at recreation centers across the country, holiday resorts, local authorities, mines, in corporate sectors, etc.
