MY CAREER CHOICE

Knitter Career Description

Knitters' duties consist of processing cotton, wool or other similar forms of yam of natural or man-made origin into clothing, scarves or other processed or manufactured articles.

What am I going to do in this occupation?

Knitters in a factory which manufactures material use mostly circular knitting-machines in the production of clothing, curtains, dress material, bedding and material for many other uses. One knitter can operate four or five of these machines when polyester yarn is used, and two to three yarns such as cotton or wool.

In factories where complete knitted garments are manufactured, many of the tasks performed by knitters are almost similar to operations performed by garment workers in the textile industry, such as making buttonholes, sewing on buttons, machine sewing, cutting and other related operations.

Requirements

What kind of personality do I need? Team-work is essential and operators must maintain positive human relations. The work is repetitive and operators must be able to perform the same operations day after day.

Where can I work?

You can work at factories that manufacture knitted garments or knitted materials.

Can I work for myself in this occupation?

Knitters who are self-employed can make knitted articles either on a household knitting machine or by hand. They can eventually employ other people and start a small factory.
