Game Ranger Career Description
The role of conservation is to manage natural resources for the benefit of society. Nature management therefore includes the protection and utilisation of nature.
What am I going to do in this occupation?
The game ranger is involved in environmental issues such as giving advice on road planning, relationships with neighbouring communities, environmental impacts as well as the promotion of a perspective towards environmental management which takes all the different aspects into consideration.
Game rangers perform various tasks such as capturing game, culling, monitoring actions, and fencing. These officers also support research projects designed by scientists. Game rangers are also responsible for law enforcement and sometimes take tourists on guided tours.
The nature conservation scientists design management orientated research projects, which emerge from potential problems in reserves or private land. These investigations usually require extensive planning, reading, fieldwork and data analysis.
