An editor check the content written by the writer for correctness, accuracy, grammatical errors and punctuation of the writer’s own book or a news paper, magazine or anywhere writing is involved. An editor’s role may be big or small. A editor may do small things like just edit for grammar and punctuation marks or editor may do bigger things like designing how the matter should be presented, plotting the lay out of the matter and so on.
What does an editor do?
An editor in a news paper company is the head of all journalists and writers. He or she check the correctness in the entire newspaper or magazine, decide what material goes for printing, edits the material, checks the lay out and authorizes the final copy to be printed. Being an editor for a magazine or newspaper is a responsible position as the editor will also need to promote the newspaper or the magazine and form alliances with many people to promote the product. To be an editor in a newspaper or a magazine company one has to have a lot of experience in the industry and also needs to be creative and progressive.
An editor can also be an aide to a writer, the editor checks the manuscripts, corrects the manuscript if there are mistakes, the editor also removes irrelevant material from the manuscript and delivers a good copy of the manuscript which can go for printing directly. Being an editor for books is an extensive job and a person who would like to be an editor of manuscripts and books should have eye for detail, sharp with grammar and an extremely good eye to identify mistakes.
How to become an Editor?
To be a good editor you should have good written and verbal; skills. Should know the language you are editing very well. So in order to gain this knowledge you should take up a literary course in the language you hope to edit. A course in journalism would help if you want to be an editor in news daily or a magazine. However to gain this job one should have a fair amount of experience in this industry.
