What am I going to do in this occupation?

Decor designers are responsible for the interpretation of the story, drama or play and the translation thereof into visual form. The process of set or decor design requires research and frequent adaptation, until both designers and producers are satisfied with the designs. As soon as the designs are approved and finalised, dates are set by which time they must be completed and the set installed in the studio.

Decor designers must transfer their ideas of what .the decor should look like into practical working drawings. Decor designers make use of computers which save time and give more accurate designs.

Decor designers work closely with the various departments such as the props and costume departments, in order to co-ordinate the style, colour combination and general visual approach of the set, costumes and props or furniture which are to be used. Finally the sets are built and painted and props, lights etc. put into place.
