It is the task of the oriental dealer to purchase carpets from all over the world, and to sell it again. Buyers purchase the carpets directly from the suppliers, and store these carpets world-wide, before they are sold. There are several factors, which influence the price of a carpet. Buyers examine the quality of the carpet, as well as the colouring agents that were used. The pattern, number of knots, fineness and evenness of the carpet, are other factors which have an influence.
The different types of carpets that can be purchased, are Persian or Iranian carpets, Caucasian carpets, Chinese carpets, Anatolian carpets, etc.
Carpet dealers must have a thorough knowledge of carpets and the history of the orient as they often give buyers advice. They must also inform the buyer on the care of the carpet.
Requirements
What kind of personality do I need? Dealers in oriental carpets must have good sight, and must not be colour-blind. They must be able to observe detail, know the prices of carpets well, and enjoy traveling. The dealers must have an eye for texture, colour and design. They must also be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
