Correctional Services Description
The mission of the Department of Correctional Services is to render a correctional service in order to contribute to the development, protection and stability of the community. The Department's main objectives are:

» The safe custody of prisoners and other persons in its care.
» Supervision and control over probationers and parolees in the community.
» Humane detention and treatment of prisoners.
» Various programmes are offered with the aim to rehabilitate prisoners.
» Preparation of all prisoners for their release and integration into the community. The Department helps released prisoners to cope successfully in society again.
» Commercial activities such as building operation, workshops and farming offer job opportunities to prisoners and enables the Department to be self-sufficient in certain respects.
