Tier 2 Work Permit

A tier 2 visa is a form of permit offered by the UK government for those who are seeking employment in the country. Non-UK citizens can’t just enter the country and seek employment without proper authorization. This form of visa will allow those who seek employment from different companies in the UK. But tier 2 is not just an open permit wherein you’ll be given free range of options once you enter the country. You need to be offered with a job first from a UK based company before proceeding with the application for tier 2 work permit visa.

In order to gain approval for this form of visa, the employer and the employee have to work together. The UK based company should be sponsoring the application while the employee should show expertise or skills needed by the company.

Tier 2 Work Permit for Employers

In tier 2, employers have a big role in ensuring the approval of this form of visa. The company has to be serious in employing the particular individual or else the sought visa will never be approved.

Before they can bring anyone outside UK for employment, the company needs to be certified first that they are really seeking employees. They will also be subject to evaluation anytime to ensure that they are providing the right salary to those who are in tier 2 visa. They should be earning the same amount when compared to local citizens.

One of the best reasons why a company needs to hire someone from outside the country is that there is a lack of skill in that category in the country. The government has a list of skills that are deemed needed by the country but there are not enough employable individuals with the said skills. If the job is based on that skill, the company can employ someone from outside the country even without advertising first in UK. On the other hand, employers could still bring in outside employees even if there’s no shortage of the skill. They should, however, show that they tried hiring locally but could not reach the needed employees.

The job offered by employers in this form of tier 2 visa should be on 3rd level of NVQ or better. NVQ or National Vocational Qualification is a system that grades the jobs in different industries. Level 3 would mean that the position is complex and would require expertise as different problem would come up that might not be on a routine.

Tier 2 Work Permit for Employees

While the employer does its task in completing the requirements for employment, the possible employees should also show competence for the job offered. Before they will be granted with any tier 2 visa, they should reach the 50 point mark.

The 50-point mark system is divided into three: the educational attainment of the individual, the salary offered to the individual and the demand for the position.

Educational Attainment the candidate gets the highest point possible in this category if the candidate has a PhD on the required skills or anything related to it (15 points). A masters and bachelors degree will earn 10 points while a person that has skills on NVQ Level 3 without the said education will earn 5 points.

Salary Offer when a company offers the individual more than £24,000 in annual salary; the full 20 points in this category will be awarded. The next brackets are £22,000 to £23,999 (15 points); £20,000 to £21.999 (10 points); £17,000 - £19,999 (5 points).

At this point the highest mark a person would get would be 35 points. The rest of the points will be coming from the type of demands for work. If the skill or job needed by the company is also available in the UK through its local residents, the person will only be rewarded with 30 points. However, if the skill is one of the listed skills that are short in the country, the applicant automatically receives 50 points. That means if the person can prove that he or she has the skills that are short in UK, the chances of being employed is very high.

But even with an impressive point system, the employees chance of being hired is still dependent on the offer made by the company in the UK.
